Seasonal Skincare - Autumnal Tips

Well, Summer is a distant memory now and we seem to be right bang in the middle of Autumn. I feel like we haven’t had that much of a transitional period between Summer and Autumn this year and, to be honest, I was hoping for an Indian Summer to gently pull me into Autumn but that never happened and the cold winds and dark nights have hit me right in the face! Your skin in Autumn really needs some extra TLC to help it from drying out and protection from cold wind and central heating. Just like you change your wardrobe and your duvet to a heavier tog, you need to update your skincare seasonally too. Pictured below are my choices for daytime and evening. I know skincare is personal and what works for me may not work for you so do your research and look at the ingredients on the back of the bottle, and more importantly, look at your skin. What are your concerns? My skin is dry and dehydrated, and my primary concerns are redness and fine lines. In the morning I like to wake my skin up gently and I do that my washing my face with Cocoa Cleansing Bar from The Friendly Soap Company. It’s jam packed full of natural ingredients including, 1/3rd Cocoa Butter, 1/3rd Coconut Oil and 1/3rd Coconut Oil. It leaves my skin feeling clean and fresh without any tightening feeling. After cleansing I move onto one of my favourite steps in my routine, Rosehip Oil. This oil is perfect, is rich in linoleic (omega 6) and linolenic (omega 3) acids. The oil targets signs of photo-ageing and boosts the skin’s overall health for a radiant result. I gently pat this into my skin while it’s damp from cleansing to get as much moisture into the skin as possible! Got to love that hydration. Then it’s my trusty Nivea as my moisturiser followed by SPF. Even though it’s Autumn don’t forget about your SPF. Winter sun can be super strong and you want to make sure you’re protected at all costs. SPF should always be the last step in your skincare routine. I love this SPF from La Roche Posay as it’s the only one I have tried that sits under make up beautifully, no sticky feeling, no white cast, no disruption to make up, perfect!

Soon as I’m finished work of an evening, my skincare routine begins. It’s my way of settling down for the evening. Bra off, PJ’s on and skincare done! I do it asap of an evening, that way you’ve got the extra hours of all the oils, moisturisers doing their thing for even longer to make your skin look even more glorious! I begin with cleansing my face. I swap between 2 cleansers depending on how much make up I’m wearing and what mood I’m in! Ponds Cold Cream Cleanser and La Roche Posay Cleansing Milk. Both I take off with a hot flannel as it’s so luxurious and very spa like! After cleansing, it’s oil time and my oil of choice it’s Kate McIver Secret Weapon Original Serum. If you haven’t heard about this yet, I suggest you google it and read up about it. I’m not going to harp on about it here as I feel all I talk about is this serum! It’s amazing, it’s transformed my skin and yes, the reviews are real. Seriously, do your skin a favour and check this stuff out. After oil it’s moisturiser and of course, it’s back to my trusty Nivea Q10. It’s just the best moisturiser I’ve ever tried and believe me I have tried a few! If my skin is feeling a bit rubbish I will use the Nivea Creme as an overnight face mask for all the hydration benefits!

There we go, my Autumnal picks for dry skin. I definitely think every skin type can benefit from an oil in your routine, whether it’s a serum or a facial oil. It’s a step that people miss out on and it’s a must for healthy, glowy hydrated skin. Don’t worry if you are oily, you can still benefit from an oil, it should just be the right oil. How many times do I need to say oil!? They don’t need to be expensive either. The Ordinary has some amazing choices with great ingredients at a really reasonable price.
