Elisa, creator and owner of Baby Bear massage and yoga

Before starting the Baby Bear Massage and Yoga, Elisa was a primary school teacher and had been in the profession for 12 years, it was during after returning to work following her maternity leave, to Teddy who’s now two that she decided that she needed a job that was more flexible and would give Elisa more time with Teddy.

“I left teaching in December 2017 and had no idea what I’d do. But loved having the time with Teddy. I also have a very supportive husband!”

“From my time volunteering, I saw the demand for classes in baby massage, also classes that supported new mums with small babies as well as their partners. I trained with hands on babies and Blossom and Berry in March 2018 and started my classes in May 2018. Baby bear was created! I wanted my classes to provide a caring, supportive, nurturing environment for new parents to learn the beautiful skill of baby massage and yoga, to allow them to connect with their baby through gentle nurturing touch, creating a bubble of love and support, but also be able to connect with other parents and babies. Plus, I always give a hot drink and biscuit at the end of class as the babies are often so relaxed they sleep!

Since then, the business has evolved further, I offer classes for older babies, as I found lots of the mums and dads coming to class still wanted to continue with yoga and massage, they felt when their babies were moving they couldn’t bring them. I’ve also offered other sessions too, including Christmas specials and one to one sessions. In January I started crawlers and wrigglers. I work in a private nursery to deliver massage and yoga in the baby room up to nursery too. II teach pregnancy relaxation on Monday nights to a small group and work with a hypnobirthing teacher to deliver special time for mums to be.

I’m so lucky, I adore my job and I have been supported by the most wonderful families, many of whom have attended classes since their baby was a newborn, through to returning to work. Starting Baby Bear I found local businesses and female-led businesses were so supportive. From this, I’ve started a network for women in business and meet up with Louise from Indigo Social. We are endeavouring to arrange meet-ups every month with women in our area. I've found this so empowering, the support and kindness I've received has been amazing, but over everything, I now have a job I love, that fits in with my family and I am able to spend lots more time with Teddy and my husband. Plus, I get to cuddle babies most days!

I’m so excited to see what the future of Baby Bear will be, it’s evolved much quicker than I could have ever imagined. I believe love creates love and I really do love my job. I feel so lucky!

Elisa is a branch secretary for NCT North Liverpool and volunteers, helping to run and organise playgroup, coffee meet ups, cinebabes and lots of other activities to support parents and families in her area. She’s also a breastfeeding support ambassador for Sefton and volunteer at support groups as well as at my classes.
